RISER to be showcased at HaDEA’s booth at Web Summit 2026

The Horizon Europe-funded RISER project has been selected as one of just four projects to be featured at the European Health and Digital Executive Agency’s (HaDEA) booth at Web Summit 2026, taking place in Lisbon, Portugal, from 10–12 November for the main exhibition.

Web Summit is one of the world’s largest technology conferences, bringing together entrepreneurs, technology companies, investors, policymakers and researchers to explore emerging technologies and the future of the digital economy. The 2026 event runs from 9–12 November, with the main exhibition taking place from 10–12 November at MEO Arena and the Feira Internacional de Lisboa (FIL). The summit provides an international platform for organisations developing new technologies to present their work, exchange ideas and connect with potential partners and stakeholders.

Showcasing European innovation through HaDEA

HaDEA manages European Commission funding programmes supporting research, innovation and the deployment of technologies across several strategic sectors, including digital technologies. Its participation at Web Summit provides an opportunity to highlight the achievements of EU-funded projects and demonstrate how European investment in research and innovation is contributing to practical technological advances.

At previous editions of Web Summit, HaDEA has used its presence to showcase selected projects, engage with industry stakeholders and explain how EU funding supports the development of technologies with real-world applications. By bringing project representatives and European funding bodies into contact with the wider technology ecosystem, these activities help connect publicly funded research with industry, potential users and future collaborators.

For the 2026 edition, RISER has been invited to join just three other projects at HaDEA’s booth. This selection provides an opportunity to bring RISER’s work to an international audience beyond the project’s research and engineering communities.

RISER: building a more sovereign European cloud

RISER (RISC-V for Cloud Services) is a Horizon Europe-funded research and innovation project developing an all-European cloud server infrastructure based on RISC-V technology and open standards. Bringing together industrial and academic partners, the project aims to strengthen Europe’s technological autonomy by developing open hardware and software solutions tailored to cloud computing.

RISER is developing two cloud-focused platforms: an accelerator platform and a microserver platform. By integrating European technologies across the hardware and software stack, the project is working towards cloud infrastructure that can reduce strategic dependencies, support innovation and improve energy efficiency.

These objectives are increasingly relevant as Europe seeks greater control over the technologies underpinning its digital infrastructure. Open architectures such as RISC-V offer opportunities to develop and adapt computing platforms with greater transparency and flexibility, while European-developed hardware and software can help strengthen the continent’s capacity to build and operate its own digital infrastructure.

HaDEA has already highlighted RISER’s contribution to this ambition in its article, EU-funded projects building Europe’s cloud sovereignty, published in June 2026.

Connecting research with the wider technology community

Being featured at HaDEA’s booth at Web Summit 2026 will give RISER an opportunity to communicate its objectives and achievements to a diverse international audience, including technology innovators, industry representatives, investors and potential collaborators.

The invitation also highlights the importance of bringing European research and innovation into conversations about the future of cloud computing. As demand for computing infrastructure continues to grow, developing open, energy-efficient and Europe-controlled alternatives is an important part of strengthening Europe’s digital capabilities and long-term competitiveness.

RISER’s participation at Web Summit will help raise awareness of the project and its contribution to the development of a more open, resilient and technologically independent European cloud ecosystem.

RISER is funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe research and innovation programme.
